Once your drawings and specifications are prepared to your approval, the pattern and a series of steps must take place to produce a custom knife which will be used to cut your moulding. The first step is to transfer your pattern to a piece of tempered steel that will serve as a template. This is done by etching your pattern onto the steel and then grinding the steel to match the pattern. The accuracy of the steel template is critical, it will be used to grind the razor sharp knives. When the steel template has been gound to match the pattern exactly, it is locked into the grinder and used as a guide similar to how a duplicate key is cut or ground. Hardened carbon steel is mounted onto the grinder and the grinding of the knife begins. We cut at least two knives. The cutter head spins very fast and must be perfectly balanced. Large cuts may require four knives. |
